Biblical film His Only Son shocks box office with No. 3 opening weekend

Moviegoers continued to support the newly released biblical film, which depicts the account of when God asks Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac in this crowdfunded theatrical release.

His Only Son grossed $5.5 million while showing in less than 2,000 theaters across the country. The film trailed Paramount Pictures’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which grossed $38.5 million in its first weekend, and Lionsgate’s John Wick: Chapter 4, which has grossed nearly $123 million in two weekends.

Film review site Rotten Tomatoes featured a critics’ score of 80% with audience members gave the film a 97% score.
